35mm f/2.0 AIS

by mobileblogger on November 18, 2010

I sometimes wonder did the world go bonkers ? Nikon announced a new, improved version of the 35mm f/1.4 prime and proudly marketed it with a >$2,000 price tag. Which in Europe is the same number but different currency. Almost a fortune for… what ?

Ok, I understand: better optics, nano-stuff, AF-S ultrasonic, better autofocus, and so on. A gem. Cool. Everybody’s happy. Let’s spend.

Not me, folks. It’s really a bit too much for my pockets and, really, do I need it ? A couple of weeks ago I placed an order on KEH for a completely mechanical 1978 (I think) FM2n that came with a 35mm f/2.0 AiS version, no autofocus, but just look at the pictures. I really will not spend 2,000 grands on something that will provide just a marginal additional benefit from this 35mm AiS.
